Great importance of ESD protection in electronic assembly service

There are many precision electronic components on PCB assembly boards, and many components are sensitive to voltage. Shocks higher than the rated voltage will damage these components. However, PCBA damaged by static electricity are difficult to investigate step by step during functional testing. What’s more deadly is that some PCBA boards function normally during the test, but when the finished product is used by the customer, occasional defects appear, which brings great after-sales dangers and affects the company’s brand and goodwill. Therefore, in the PCB processing process, we must attach great importance to ESD protection.

PCBFuture recommends the following methods for ESD protection during PCBA:

1. Make sure that the temperature and humidity of the workshop are within the standard range, 22-28 degrees Celsius, and humidity 40%-70%.

2. All employees must discharge static electricity when entering and leaving the workshop.

3. Dress as required, wear an electrostatic cap, an electrostatic clothing, and an electrostatic shoes.

4. All workstations that need to touch the PCBA board must wear a rope static ring, and connect the rope static ring to the static alarm.

5. The static wire is separated from the equipment ground wire to prevent the equipment from leakage and cause damage to the PCBA board.

6. All the static frame racks of turnover vehicles must be connected to the static ground wire.

7. Conduct ESD static inspection in strict accordance with ISO quality management requirements. Static electricity is invisible and intangible during the circuit board assembly production process, and it often causes fatal hazards to PCBA circuit boards inadvertently. Therefore, PCBFuture recommends that every manager must pay strict attention to ESD static management, so that the PCBA manufacturing process can be completely controlled.
